What to do with children in Madrid on vacation

Tick-tock, the time has come. Holidays! Children have been waiting for a whole year to finish their school obligations, but most parents do not have enough days to accompany them (some do, there are always exceptions).

But there is something that all parents wonder: What do I do with the children on vacation? Filling almost three months with interesting activities for children is not easy (even assuming that a significant amount of time could literally be for them to get bored and use their imaginations).

The truth is that the plans will depend a lot on where we are. In the case of Madrid, there are countless things to do, although the high temperatures limit some activities. Here are some suggestions:

What to do with children in Madrid on vacation

1. Refreshing plans with children in Madrid

A) Swimming pools: there are countless places to take a dip in Madrid. If you have a pool at home, you already know. If not, here you can consult the municipal swimming pools where you can enjoy a day of water. But if you are looking for something a little more special, we advise you to spend the day in one of the natural pools in Madrid. You can find out about the bathing areas of the Community, their status and all the details on this official page. They are the ‘beaches’ of Madrid, but yes, the water is cool.

b) Waterparks: Another thing you can do with the children on vacation in Madrid is to visit a water park. It is the ideal plan for lovers of strong emotions and water. You can go to the Aquopolis in Villanueva de la Cañada or the Warner Beach Park, for example. However, if you want to try new experiences, how about going surfing in a mall? Well, come to Honna Surf Hub, in the X-Madrid shopping center.

2. Fun plans with children in Madrid

A) Cable car ride: Enjoy the views of Madrid from above on the route of the classic Madrid cable car, a total of 2,457 meters. It is a great way to get to the heart of the Casa de Campo.

b) Visit to Burrolandia: Paradise in the Land of donkeys is Burrolandia and it is in Tres Cantos, in the direction of Soto de Viñuelas. They open to the public on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and access is free, but you have to book in advance on the website. Tickets for Sunday are made available on Mondays and Fridays at 8am, meaning reservations will be made weekly. They sell out quickly, so if it says sold out, you’ll have to wait until the next Monday or Friday to rebook.

c) Excursion to the house of the Mouse Perez: The house of the Ratón Pérez is located next to the Puerta del Sol in Madrid. The mouse itself is something very small, there are three small rooms in which the house of the mouse is recreated with some surprises. Before entering you play a video and a storyteller tells the story to the children.

3. Cultural plans with children in Madrid

A) Museum day: when the heat hits you want more than ever to be somewhere closed with good air conditioning… the museums and cultural centers of Madrid are a good option and there is a great variety such as the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, the Reina Sofia, the National Archaeological Museum, the National Museum of Anthropology, etc.

b) Visit to the Insect Park: this is a very different park: the InsectPark Nature Center is a center for scientific and cultural dissemination with a microfauna unknown to many. In the park you can learn about the extraordinary biodiversity of insects that populate the planet.

c) Planetary: it’s a perfect plan. You will enjoy the projections and exhibitions located on the ground floor. It is a center to learn about the cosmos and its history. All the activities organized by this institution with more than 20 years of experience are aimed at a single purpose: to discover the secrets of the Universe in a fun way. The planetarium is open from Tuesday to Sunday.
