The Kichwa Otavalo people, after a meeting convened on the afternoon of this Sunday, June 26, decided to ignore the chiefs and political lieutenants of Otavalo, Cotacachi and Antonio Ante, and to appoint a community representative.

In the meeting, which radicalizes the measures and ignores the representatives of the Executive in these cantons, Mariela Arellano was appointed as president of the Kichwa Otavalo people, to coordinate various actions.

She will direct the creation of community corridors for the entry of food, medicine or medical emergency care. According to her reports, they accept one of the provisions of Leonidas Iza, president of Conaie.

At the meeting they agreed to take control of prices and seek a way out of the lack of domestic gas, food and fuel. The Provincial Executive has not ruled on the new resolutions of the more than 120 communities that bring together this organization.

Representatives of communities and councils came from various sectors and remained in the central park of Otavalo participating in the assembly. A bank branch located on Bolívar and Roca attempted to be vandalized and several graffiti were placed on the facade.

The community members and leaders decided to declare the Bolívar park in Otavalo as a zone of peace and resistance. This Monday they will hold meetings with leaders of the Imbabura Indigenous and Peasant Federation (FICI) and the urban neighborhoods of Otavalo.

Late at night, a group of indigenous people from the Kichwa Karanki people entered Ibarra, where they requested the departure of the president. Patricio Cervantes, CREO assemblyman for Imbabura, reported that they came to his residence to demand, based on threats, to vote in favor of the removal of President Guillermo Lasso.

Something similar happened with Luis Marcillo, a member of the ID assembly: the demonstrators came to his home to demand support for the impeachment motion, which instead is supported by assembly members Pamela Aguirre, from UNES, and Mario Ruiz, from Pachakutik Rebelde. (YO)
