Quito firefighters reported 16 fires this weekend

The flames coming out of the hood of a car alerted the drivers who were traveling, on Sunday, May 1, along the Lumbisí Step, a road that connects the Ruta Viva with the parish of Cumbayá, in the northeast of Quito. Several citizens approached with the fire extinguishers of their vehicles to help fight the fire while they waited for the arrival of the Quito Fire Department (CBQ).

The fire was controlled by seconds and returned with greater intensity. They tried to raise the hood, but the attempts were in vain. The flames entered the interior of the car and its upholstery was consumed. Ten minutes later, when firefighters arrived, the vehicle was almost completely consumed. The fire was controlled, but only the cans of the burned car remained.

According to the CBQ, from Friday, April 29 to 10:00 on Monday, May 2, 2022, 16 fires were reported in the Quito Metropolitan District: eight were structural, one was industrial, one was vehicular, and six were fires. waste that had to be controlled.

Another fire was registered on Sunday night. A warehouse full of cardboard and plastic, in the Sangolquí parish, was consumed by the flames, which reached height due to the burned material.

Members of the Fire Department of Rumiñahui, Quito, the National Police and the Directorate of Security and Risks of the Rumiñahui GAD attended the emergency, which was completely controlled. The emergency entered after 22:30.

No injuries were reported in the two emergencies.

The CBQ called on citizens to prevent the start of fires, as well as review the condition of vehicles and electrical connections in warehouses, factories and homes, in order to avoid major emergencies. (I)
