President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky assesses the risk of termination of negotiations between the delegations of Moscow and Kyiv as high. He believes that only direct negotiations between the heads of the two states will give a real effect. He said this in an interview with the Polish media.
“When they confirm something, for example, an exchange, I don’t believe in it. They confirm some kind of civil exchange, and then something went wrong. One time, two, three. This suggests that one person is responsible for them. And therefore, only direct negotiations and direct agreements on something will be fulfilled. This is my faith and the final understanding of this whole process, ”RBC quotes Zelensky.
Peace negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow began on February 27, three days after the start of the special operation on the territory of Ukraine. The delegations achieved the greatest progress during a meeting with the participation of the foreign ministers of Russia, Ukraine and Turkey in Istanbul a month later. According to the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, Kyiv for the first time in many years has demonstrated a desire to negotiate. But later, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Ukraine was refusing its own proposals and creating numerous provocations in order to slow down the negotiation process.
