In the midst of a strong police guard, the transfer of 17 of the 18 apprehended linked to the Los Tiguerones criminal organization for alleged organized crime was completed. This, after a judge ordered preventive detention on Friday night.
Among those transferred are Gabriel Cortez, a Barcelona Sporting Club player, and three active-duty police officers. This group of 17 people was joined by another five detainees.

In a bus and black armored vehicles, with the protection of police officers from various units, the detainees were boarded from the Temporary Assurance Center after the judicial hearing was over, on the night of this Friday the 22nd.
Meanwhile, their relatives waited for the opinions outside the Community Surveillance Unit (UVC).
Javier Buitrón, commander of Subzone 8 of Esmeraldas, who was present at the hearing, maintained that the opinion is satisfactory because the judge accepted the charges filed by the Prosecutor’s Office.
For his part, Antonio Durán, defense attorney for Gabriel Cortez, questioned the formulation of charges and did not rule out requesting the review of measures, habeas corpus or appeal from preventive detention.
“My client is accused of notifying the execution of murders and the sale of weapons and two telephone calls are presented as evidence at the hearing,” alleged the defender of the soccer player.
A group of fourteen detainees was taken to the Penitenciaría del Litoral and to Cotopaxi, and the three police officers to Prison No. 4 in Quito, after the fiscal investigation for the crime of organized crime, which lasted 90 days.
Meanwhile, the five prisoners who were in the Men’s Rehabilitation Center No. 2 Esmeraldas were taken to the La Roca maximum security prison, among them there are aliases Commander 06 Lalafor allegedly directing this criminal organization from prison.
After 29 raids carried out in Esmeraldas, Guayas and Manabí, led by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ecuadorian Police, the arrest of these 18 people was achieved.
They are accused of identifying, giving information, notifying and executing murders, selling and hiding firearms, repairing firearms, mobilizing members of the Los Tiguerones gang, micro-trafficking and other crimes.
This operation was carried out after four months of investigation, detailed Carlos Cabrera, general commander of the Police.
As evidence during the raids, 16 firearms, 40 ammunition of different calibers, 2 feeders, 3 vehicles, 14 mobile terminals, 3 video surveillance cameras and 1,000 grams of controlled substances were retained.

The transfer of the five alleged gang leaders from the Men’s Rehabilitation Center No. 2 Esmeraldas caused an incident that left twelve prisoners with minor injuries.
In the city of Esmeraldas there has been an apparent calm since the early hours of Friday the 22nd, with no record of violent deaths, injuries and shootings, mainly in the urban neighborhoods and on the banks of the Esmeraldas River. (I)
