Sitting in the living room having coffee or tea. See, on the way, mountains with great vegetation and in the background the imposing Chimborazo volcano. Later, when arriving at a distant place, descending and seeing running deer, llamas, and even hearing owls, it is a part of the experience of being in a mobile hotel.
This is an idea that was born from the brothers Andrea, 29, and Esteban Albán, 31, from Riobamba.
In 2015 they analyzed it, in 2019 it was constituted as Nomad Ecuador and in 2021 the first stay was carried out.
What is it like to stay in a tree house in Ecuador? (And one block from the beach). This journalist lived the experience
“The idea came about because I had an assignment to investigate new types of hotels. And after talking with my sister, we were interested in the concept, because it is camping Y glamor a isolated, intimate places, but with all the comfort that a luxury hotel can provide”, says Esteban Albán, manager of Nomads.
Since then, Esteban, who is also an architect, started building cabins so they can be moved on a trailer. They are made of wood and have windows. They have a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom..
In the room there are two chairs and a small table; also a rug. Above this is the bed, which with a button can be lowered for use. In the back is the kitchen with the laundry room, and in the drawers there are utensils. And a coolerthat is, a box that works as a cooler for food.
These cabins also have a bathroom with a toilet and shower. They have hot water. In addition, the entire room has heating.
The Albán brothers have managed about 20 stays a month with their four cabins, which work with solar panels, that is, they there will always be electricity; even internet connection, through the satellite antenna placed on the slopes of the Chimborazo volcano.
In Manabí, a family initiative promotes tourism on the Dominguillo hill, from where nature can be seen at a height of 678 meters
“It is private land and we rent it. There is quite a lot of wildlife here. You can see deer, hear owls, and there are quite a few isolated acres. Guests are alone in the middle of nature. Yes there is internet connection, because a satellite antenna is placed so that those who telecommute have that facility, because in these places there is no signal”, assures Esteban, who adds that, if the person wants to completely disconnect, they can not use the internet.
And that is the idea, says Andrea, of getting out of comfort, out of routine. “They must be open to changing their lifestyle for a weekend”.
She recommends, before staying, go to the doctor if the interested party had COVID-19; this so that it is not affected by height. In addition, they advise acclimatizing children and not going with children under two years of age, precisely to avoid any discomfort from being in the moor.
He suggests bringing warm clothes and easy-to-cook foods. It says that barbecues can be done, because there is an area for barbecues.
An eco-friendly hotel
For Esteban it is essential to offer a 100% eco-friendly space. For this reason, the cabins have solar panels and do not throw fecal waste; these are stored to be treated in Riobamba and converted into compost.
With solar panels companies seek to reduce their emissions, generate their own energy and save along the way
But that procedure is not possible with a traditional toilet, says Esteban. That’s why the toilets were imported, just like other technology.
As for water, it also seeks to raise awareness about its consumption. And it has the considerable amount to be used in a stay.
A ‘pet friendly’ space

Living this experience together with your pet is another possibility. However, it is important to take into account certain observations.
These are the places to walk with your pet in Ecuador; experts make nine recommendations
“We ask that they follow certain rules when they are large dogs, because there are deer, llamas, and sometimes by playing they begin to bother the animals and can cause a problem.. They must have their leash. We also ask that dogs relieve themselves outside and owners pick up”, Andrea says.
Activities and costs
There are four cabins and two types of models. The first is Inti, the largest. It has everything, with the difference that it has a three-seater bed and this is not pet-friendly. It is for four people.
The stay for two people costs $112, including breakfast. And that of two additional people costs $50 for each adult and $25 for children.
the other model is wayraa little smaller, because the bed is two places. Weekday stay is $95 and weekend is $112. Also includes breakfast. In this one can go a pet, whose stay costs $ 25.
Those who choose either of the two can carry out additional activities on the slopes of the Chimborazo volcano.like horseback riding at $35 or long walks at $45, which comes with snacks.

According to Andrea, in these alternatives they can listen to the stories and traditions of the communities, who offer these last services.
The entrance to the mobile hotel is at 2:00 p.m. and the exit is at 12:00 p.m.. All cabins are mobile and can be attached to a trolley. And to enter them a code is provided instead of a card.
According to Esteban, the meeting point is Riobamba, although there is also the option of going directly to the lodging site.
next zones
The brothers, together with tourism experts, are devising other routes for the mobile hotel, as well as horseback riding, hiking and other activities.
They hope to reach the Coast. At the moment, they are concentrated in the Sierra because of its proximity, Andrea points out. (I)
