Once again, news was registered in the Litoral Penitentiary, on the road to Daule, on the morning of October 31.
In this prison compound, located 500 meters from the Regional prison (or maximum security as it is also known), uniformed police officers such as the GIR, GOE and the Antiexplosives Unit arrived in uniform. This after shots were reported around 08:00 this Sunday 31.
A police officer unofficially indicated that the shots were fired in pavilions 2 and 3. Until 10:30 am, it was not yet confirmed whether there were deaths or not, since the uniformed men had not yet entered the entire prison compound.
The GIR and GOE people are checking. The police also reported the possible kidnappings of some prison guides.
“Now they are negotiating to release them,” confirmed a police source.
Due to this new incident, at least two drones fly over the area to also search for inmates who have left their cells. The latter because it was indicated that there were inmates who left their wards and that they would remain hidden in the vegetation of the prison perimeter.
The search is carried out on an internal street, half a kilometer long, which connects both prisons.
The commander in charge of Zone 8, General Fredy Sarzosa, also arrived at the prison perimeter, who is coordinating the actions to regain control of the prison, it was said.
This year alone, at the national level, more than 260 murders have been registered in Ecuador’s prisons, according to the statistics that are managed. Last year there were 103 cases.
