A resident of Novokuznetsk (Kemerovo region), who killed a homeless man and burned his body to fake his own death, will stand trial. Thus, the Kuzbass hoped to avoid punishment for the distribution of drugs.
According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Kuzbass, in November 2020, human remains were found in a burned-out car in Novokuznetsk. Investigators found out the name of the owner of the car, but the genomic examination showed that the remains belong to another person. As revealed by another examination, he died before the ignition of the car.
“In November 2021, operational information was received on the whereabouts of the man,” the investigation reports. “He was detained in the Mariinsky district, in the taiga area, where he worked in a geological exploration brigade.”
The detainee explained to the investigator that he had decided to escape punishment for the distribution of drugs and escape from the court. To do this, he decided to convince everyone that he took his own life. After that, noticing a man of a suitable build without a fixed place of residence, under the pretext of drinking alcohol, he took the unfortunate man to a remote area of the city. In the car, he strangled the victim, then put his wristwatch on his hand, and then doused him with flammable liquid and set him on fire.
The criminal case with the approved indictment was sent to court.
