The Latvian Road Transport Authority has decided to block the operation of the Yandex Go mobile application. According to Interfax, this decision was made due to the fact that the service provides an active exchange of data with servers located in Russia. From Latvia’s point of view, this is a threat to its national security.

“From Wednesday, March 23, operators will no longer be able to use the Yandex Go mobile application, and this service provider will no longer be able to provide its services in the territory of Latvia. In accordance with the law on road transport, drivers and carriers who continue to use Yandex Go may be fined for using an unregistered site, ”the ministry said in a statement.

According to Zane Plone, a representative of the department, drivers and carriers who continue to use Yandex Go after March 23 may be fined.

Recall that restrictions against Russia are introduced in connection with the events in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
