Italian Foreign Minister Di Maio announced Rome’s openness to the fifth package of sanctions against Russia. It is reported by TASS.
According to him, Italy is fully open to anti-Russian sanctions, including the fifth package. On the part of Rome, not only there are no votes against these measures, on the contrary, Di Maio noted, Italy is waiting for proposals from the European Commission.
Earlier it was reported that the European Union is developing a fifth package of restrictions, which may include an embargo on Russian oil. According to Reuters, there will be “many new names” in the package. At the same time, the developers of the document insist on an embargo on Russian oil. However, Germany, which is more dependent on Russian gas than other EU countries and is the EU’s largest buyer of oil from Russia, has already warned against quick action due to high energy prices in Europe.
Recall that earlier the import of energy from Russia was banned by the United States, plans to abandon Russian oil were also announced by Canada and the UK. The EU said that they also intend to abandon Russian gas, oil and coal, but they will be able to do this “gradually”, without naming specific dates.
