EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Representative Josep Borrell said he does not expect new EU sanctions against Russia this week. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
However, he said, when the European Council discusses the conflict in Ukraine, its members will consider what else can be done in terms of anti-Russian sanctions. Borrell specified that the European Council provides political guidance, which pfntv’s technical structures translate into a practical, concrete and legally binding solution.
Earlier, the head of EU diplomacy said that the EU would discuss a possible expansion of sanctions against Russia in the energy sector and on the issue of an embargo on oil imports from Russia.
In response, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the imposition of an EU embargo on Russian oil imports would hit everyone and worsen the energy balances on the European continent. “At the same time, the Americans will remain on their own, this is obvious, and they will feel much better than the Europeans. The Europeans will have a hard time. That is, this is a decision that will hit everyone,” Peskov added.
Let us add that earlier the embargo on the import of Russian oil was introduced by the United States and Great Britain. It has been reported that the EU is working on a fifth round of sanctions that could include the same measure.
