The Italian rock band Måneskin, which won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021, will not perform in Russia during its world tour due to events in Ukraine, TASS reports.

The band said in a statement that the musicians will not perform in the Russian Federation “because of decisions made by those in power, decisions that harm innocent civilians.” The group also expressed its solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

Recall, on February 25, the European Broadcasting Union announced that Russia would not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, which will be held this year in Turin.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
