The United States is interested in maintaining channels of communication with Russia, State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a press briefing.
According to Price, “an open dialogue or the opportunity to be involved in it is key, especially in times of tension and conflict.” He also noted that the US administration “seeks to maintain a diplomatic presence in Russia and the possibility of a Russian presence in the US”, but “the question arises whether Moscow is interested in maintaining lines of communication.”
Recall that earlier the Russian Foreign Ministry said that “unacceptable statements by US President Joe Biden about Russian President Vladimir Putin put relations between the countries on the verge of breaking.”
On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
