The International Association of Veterans of the FSB anti-terror unit “Alpha” is preparing an appeal to the leadership of the Service regarding the “subversive activities” of Alexei Filatov, the former vice-president of this organization. This is reported by the publication “Moscow Monitor” with reference to political scientist Marat Bashirov.

As follows from Bashirov’s publication, Alpha veterans are outraged by the political activities of their former comrade, who, “hiding behind the name of Alpha, conducts anti-government propaganda in the media” and “crossed over from FSB lieutenant colonels to leaders of the opposition-liberal bloc.”

“It turns out that the authors of the appeal felt something was wrong back in 2020, when Filatov “during the riots” after the presidential elections in Belarus published an open letter allegedly on behalf of veterans of the Belarusian Alpha calling for disobedience to the authorities, the publication reports. “His personal opinion, presented on behalf of his comrades, outraged former colleagues,” the publication states. “At that time, Filatov got away with everything, the veterans of the special forces did not take dirty linen out of the hut. They limited themselves only to the fact that the “liberal” left the ranks of the association and his post in it,” says Bashirov.

However, the publication continues, Filatov continued his public activities, he organized the Alpha Group Officers Union, in which he was appointed president. With the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the publication says, Aleksey Filatov made predictions in a number of Russian and Ukrainian media that the hostilities in the neighboring country would “tear Russia apart from the inside.” The retired lieutenant colonel even gave advice to Ukrainian nationalists on the tactics of fighting against the Russian side, according to the publication.

Then Aleksey Filatov went abroad and continued from there to distribute comments for foreign media, “calling himself no longer just anyone, but a high-ranking FSB official,” the publication says.

“According to Bashirov, ‘none of the Alpha veterans can no longer fail to notice how far things have gone. The time has come for tough assessments and decisive action.” And it hints that Alexei Filatov should think about his own safety, ”the Moscow Monitor reports.
