At the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which has been under the control of the Russian military since February 24, a partial rotation of personnel has been carried out, the press service of the Ukrainian Energoatom reports.

According to the company, on March 20, 64 people were taken out of the territory of the station: 50 people of the Chernobyl NPP shift service personnel, nine employees of the National Guard of Ukraine (eight women and one cancer patient), one employee of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and four “stalkers”. It is noted that the station staff spent about 600 hours at their workplaces.

They were replaced by 46 volunteers from among the station’s employees to perform their duties and ensure the functioning of the enterprise, Energoatom added.

According to Reuters, the IAEA confirmed the rotation of plant personnel and expressed the hope that the employees who remained at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant will also be able to change in the near future.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
