A landslide surprised residents of the Conguime Alto sector, in Zamora Chinchipe. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday the 19th.
The large amount of earth, mud, water and stone material fell in that area and destroyed a house where three people were. Two of them were rescued with injuries.
The wounded are two citizens of Venezuelan nationality: Jefferson Guerrero and James Adrian Rumpina. While John Alejandro López Camacho, a Colombian citizen, is missing.
The winter season affects the vehicular flow on some roads in Ecuador
Until noon this Sunday, the search for the third foreign person was carried out with the miners of the sector, the Paquisha and Nangaritza Fire Department, in coordination with the National Police.
Confirm Alto, the affected area, is located 68 kilometers from the provincial capital.
Closures in sections with landslides
On Saturday afternoon, a section of the Uzhcurrumi – Chilcaplaya road, a secondary road that connects the towns of Azuay and El Oro, was closed. In that area there was a landslide that dragged mud onto the road.
Machinery was moved to the site to be able to remove the material that covered the road and that prevented normal circulation.
Damaged sections of the Ballenita boardwalk were temporarily cordoned off for repairs
While in Loja, due to the heavy rains recorded on Saturday in the San Lucas parish, the alternate route Loja-Cuenca was closed. There were no conditions for drivers to circulate safely.
A section of the road was covered by the current of a tributary in the area and to avoid misfortunes traffic was prevented. (I)
