About 10 million citizens of Ukraine have been forced to leave their homes since the beginning of the special operation in Ukraine. This was announced by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, referring to both displaced persons and those who left Ukraine.
As of March 19, according to the UN, 902 Ukrainians were killed and 1,459 injured. In the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, 195 people were killed and 561 injured. In the territory controlled by the self-proclaimed republics, 53 people died and 183 were injured.
The majority of civilians suffered as a result of the use of explosive weapons with a large area of destruction, including shelling from heavy artillery and multiple launch rocket systems, rocket and air strikes. At the same time, the UN recognizes that there may be more victims, since information from the territories where the fighting takes place comes with a great delay.
Earlier, the UN reported that more than 23% of the inhabitants of Ukraine became refugees.
