The Joint Command of the Armed Forces reported this Sunday the seizure of war material in the province of Guayas, as well as the arrest of three people in the operations.
The seizure took place in the Gulf of Guayaquil during military operations of a reconnaissance river patrol in coordination with naval military intelligence.
The Joint Command said in a statement that it seized lethal weapons and ammunition of different calibers, including two 32-millimeter caliber Mossberg firearms and nine Uzi machine guns.
In addition, two nine-millimeter caliber firearms, Glock brand, ten 16-millimeter caliber ammunition, 79 nine-millimeter caliber ammunition, three mini Uzi magazines and one Glock magazine.
The military operation carried out on Saturday left three detainees of Ecuadorian nationality, who, along with the seized material, were handed over to the National Police for the corresponding legal procedures.
High levels of violence
In the province of Guayas, violent acts have increased considerably in recent months, with a large number of robberies, assaults and cases of hired assassins.
Among them, the one that occurred on March 6 when seven people died in a shooting outside a house in the Las Malvinas sector, in Guayaquil.
Last January, another five people died in a shootout that occurred in the Playita sector in Guasmo, in the south of the city. The event also left a dozen injured.
The Police then said that about twenty people arrived in some boats “armed with rifles, submachine guns, pistols, revolvers”, subdued the guards of La Playita and accessed the place where the people they shot were gathered. (I)
