Tulcán expects to receive a high influx of tourists during the holiday that begins this Saturday, October 30 and ends on Wednesday, November 3.

The José María Azael Franco cemetery anticipates the arrival of more than 25,000 people. One of the peculiarities of this cemetery is the presence of 400 sculptures engraved in cypress, which make it unique for its environment.

During November 1 and 2, the Municipality of Tulcán has organized several events in this cemetery, including three theatrical night tours guided to the cemetery, in which traditional characters of the city participate.

This Friday the traditional fair of the bread of the finados, purple laundry and flower arrangements was opened to the public, next to the Isidro Ayora park and on the Campo Santo boulevard, with the participation of more than a hundred exhibitors, including bakeries and florists.

This Saturday, October 30 and Sunday, October 31, the final of the second version of the Los Colores de Tulcán contest will be held, in which 70 gardens, facades, balconies, orchards of rurality and urban areas that preserve beautiful multicolored geraniums participate.

The objective of this event is to make visible the geranium, the emblematic flower of the capital of Carchi, where the characteristic scents of apple or lemon with a rose aroma are inevitable in these spaces of the city, which are guarded by people who are fond of gardening.

Geovanna Polo, municipal responsible for the Environment and coordinator of this proposal, explained that visitors will make free tours to these places in buses that will serve two routes: to the northwest of Tufiño and to Urbina, in the northeastern part.

Polo pointed out that citizens will have the opportunity to admire 250 varieties of colors of these plants in country houses, where the facades and interiors are decorated with geraniums, old bicycles and heritage elements.

On Tuesday, November 2, a cycle walk is planned, in which the finalist houses of the contest will be visited. They will also make several stops to enjoy local snacks and will receive a medal. Winners of the Geranium Contest Will Receive $ 1,800 in Cash and Plaques of Recognition

In Isidro Ayora Park, that day will also take place the eighteenth international plastic exhibition Andean peoples united by peace and unity in a symphony of colors, with exhibitions in open spaces. This meeting brings together 65 artists from Colombia and Ecuador.

This cultural corridor that connects with the cemetery will also offer music, dance, declamation and artistic photography. These activities will be carried out jointly through social networks with artists from Mexico, Bolivia, Honduras, United Arab Emirates, France, Egypt, Austria, Serbia, Italy, Azerbaijan and Colombia, said Guillermo Erazo, president of the Centro Cultural Comuneros.

Cristian Benavides, mayor of Tulcán, suggested that citizens respect biosecurity measures to avoid COVID-19 infections. (I)
