U.S. President Joe Biden will make it clear to Chinese President Xi Jinping during a call scheduled for Friday that Beijing will face consequences if it helps Russia in the situation in Ukraine, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said.
According to Reuters, Blinken stressed that the consequences “will be immediate.” He also noted that Xi Jinping “could use his influence with Russian President Vladimir Putin”, but “China seems to have decided to go in the opposite direction” and “is considering the possibility of providing military assistance to Russia.”
Recall that the Russian side denies the appeal to China for military assistance, and the Chinese Foreign Ministry called reports of such an appeal “disinformation.”
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including those of a financial and economic nature.
