The number of citizens of Belarus entering Georgia since February 24 (the beginning of the special operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine) has increased 10 times compared to the same period in 2019. In addition, the number of Russian citizens who left for Georgia and stayed there increased 12 times.

This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Vakhtang Gomelauri, who was quoted by the Georgia Online portal.

According to him, 30,439 Russian citizens entered Georgia in 2022. For the same period in 2019, there were almost twice as many. In 2019, out of 64,008 Russian citizens, 63,097 left, which means that up to a thousand citizens of the Russian Federation remained in the country.

Of the 30,439 citizens of the Russian Federation who entered Georgia in 2022, up to 12,000 people remained in Georgia, what decision they will make next is unknown.

At the same time, the number of Ukrainian citizens who arrived in Georgia in the same period began to decline compared to 2019. If three years ago it was 9,200 people, then in 2022 it will be 8,628 people.

As the minister explains, the data of 2022 are compared with those of 2019 intentionally, since in 2020-2021 the number of citizens wishing to enter Georgia has significantly decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
