From January 1, 2022, users with postpaid cell phone service will not pay for international roaming in countries of the Andean Community

The measure applies between Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia and Peru.

From next year, users who maintain a postpaid cellular service will not have a surcharge in the roaming international, according to what was approved this Friday by the Andean Committee of Telecommunications Authorities (Caatel).

The Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society (Mintel) announced the resolution that establishes the date of application and that the same prices be applied in voice, data and SMS as in the country of origin, so there is no will pay an additional surcharge for roaming between Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Colombia.

4.1 million active lines will benefit from reduced international roaming costs in Ecuador

The entity explained that the decision will benefit 3.5 million subscribers who have this type of plan.

Since last July 19, the progressive and gradual reduction of the costs of roaming in accordance with Decision 854 of the Andean Community.

Decision 854, which is part of the Andean Digital Agenda, incorporates aspects regarding the rights of users of roaming international, in particular with regard to access to information, free choice of service (activation and deactivation), rapid and efficient response to requests, complaints or claims arising from the provision of the service.
