Affiliates and retirees of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) who sought care at the Ambato hospital complained about the poor service they receive, according to them. Some prefer to speak on the condition that their names be withheld because they assure that “retaliation” will follow.

William, a user, commented that since October 20 of the previous year he has been seeking a prostate ultrasound, and that he has come several times to be given an appointment, but that it was not until this Tuesday, March 15 , who told him that there was space for next August 3.

“I asked them what was the reason for waiting more than four months for a shift for which I have come several times to see, the answer was that there are not enough specialists for this exam. What a pity that you have to wait so long for them to attend to something that is essential, health, ”the man questioned.

Teresa Villalva showed her annoyance by pointing out that she accompanied her mother (Gloria Ponce), who has diabetes, to the medical appointment with the nursing home, but only when they arrived at the consultation they were told that he had retired and that there is no doctor to replace him, and it is not known when there will be a doctor who cares for older adults.

He also regretted that there are not all the medicines. He maintained that of the five medicines that were prescribed to his mother, they only gave him two, the rest he had to buy outside.

A retiree who requested that his name be withheld stated that for his diabetes there are no medications such as metamorphine, and that from the little he earns he has to spend around $30 a month.

In addition, he pointed out that when he takes an appointment they give him an appointment for after three months, to which he said that mistreatment is not fair after more than 30 years of contributions to Social Security.

Lorena Rivera said that her son was born prematurely and that for that reason he had to stay hospitalized for just over a month. During that time, she commented, she had to buy medicine every day because they told her that there is not everything there, that she sometimes spent up to $40 a day, she added.

They recognize drawbacks

Marcelo Lara, director of the IESS in Tungurahua, recognized the inconveniences in the hospital and said that work is being done to attend to the citizen clamor, that in about two or three months they aspire to have more medical professionals so that the affiliates and retirees are better catered.

He assured that in fifteen days there will be a supply of medicines of around 76%. He argued that there will never be 100% for the daily consumption, but that the internal network is activated by asking the country’s hospitals that they have enough balance to be able to supply the one in Ambato and that in the same way it is sent to other places that they request it.
