US President Joe Biden called Vladimir Putin’s Russian counterpart a “war criminal”.
According to RIA Novosti, a Fox News journalist asked the American leader if he considers Putin a war criminal. At first he answered in the negative, but after a pause he agreed with this characterization.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov condemned Biden’s words. “We consider unacceptable and unforgivable such rhetoric of the head of the country, from the bombs of which hundreds of thousands of people died,” he stressed.
It should be noted that before a press conference with reporters, Biden signed a decree on the allocation of an additional $800 million in military assistance to Ukraine, which will bring its volume to $1 billion in a week. Military assistance includes 800 light air defense systems and 9,000 anti-tank systems, drones, 7,000 small arms and 20 million different types of ammunition.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin, commenting on the decision to start special operations in Ukraine, explained that the possibilities to resolve the situation through diplomacy were completely exhausted. According to him, the Russian Federation “simply left no options” to solve the problems peacefully.
The head of state also noted that the appearance of Russian troops near Kiev and other cities of Ukraine “is not connected with the intention to occupy this country.”
