The Canadian authorities have decided to ban the broadcasting of Russian RT TV channels in English and French in the country, RBC reports citing a statement by the Canadian Commission on Radio and Television.
According to the statement, the regulator believes that the continued broadcasting of RT and RT France TV channels “is not in the public interest.”
Recall that earlier Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said that the RT channel is “an issue that needs to be addressed.” Prior to this, the RT channel stopped broadcasting in Germany, and the day before, as part of another package of sanctions, the EU countries decided to ban RT broadcasts throughout the European Union.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
