Switzerland has expanded sanctions against the Russian Federation in connection with the special military operation carried out by Russia in Ukraine. According to the Swiss government, the sanctions list includes more than 200 “new individuals and organizations” from Russia.
According to the authorities, financial restrictions and entry bans now apply to 197 individuals, including “oligarchs and influential business people.” Their holdings in Switzerland must be frozen and declared to the State Secretariat for Economics.
Nine new organizations of the Russian Federation also fell under the sanctions.
The country’s authorities explained that Switzerland joined the EU measures taken the day before in relation to individuals and organizations from Russia who were under sanctions.
On March 15, we recall, the European Union introduced a new package of personal and economic sanctions in connection with the situation in Ukraine. The “black list” included new personalities from among Russian entrepreneurs and media people. So, for example, the general director of Channel One Konstantin Ernst, businessman Roman Abramovich, head of the RSPP Alexander Shokhin and others fell under the restrictions.
Earlier, Moscow approved a list of foreign states and territories that commit unfriendly actions against the Russian Federation, its companies and citizens. Switzerland is also included in the corresponding list.
