The international Internet registrar RIPE NCC allowed Russian companies that, due to sanctions, had difficulties with payments on foreign accounts, to defer payment for Internet resources, RBC reports with reference to a letter sent by the organization to clients in the Russian Federation.

According to the letter, IP address holders in Russia still “remain an obligation to pay”, but if “sanction-related factors prevent payment of bills”, RIPE NCC will not terminate the Standard Service Agreement (SSA) . The letter notes that the company understands that “sanctions and other related factors may prevent payment.”

Recall that in connection with the sanctions imposed on Russia, some methods of paying foreign bills for Russians are limited. For example, the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard have decided to suspend their work in Russia due to operations in Ukraine. Also, Russian individuals and legal entities cannot pay for Internet resources through PayPal, since the company announced the suspension of work in Russia.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
