The US authorities intend to allocate an additional $186 million for humanitarian support to Ukrainian citizens, both those who left the country and those internally displaced, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said.

According to the State Department report, Blinken stressed that the assistance would be intended for internally displaced persons in Ukraine and “more than 3 million refugees.” He also noted the need to promote “unhindered humanitarian access” in the regions of Ukraine and called for “a safe exit for those who want to leave the cities.”

The Secretary of State recalled that since the beginning of February, the United States has already allocated about $293 million for humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, and over the past eight years – about $644 million.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
