The Ostankinsky District Court of Moscow is considering an administrative case against the editor of Channel One, Marina Ovsyannikova, who appeared on the air the day before with a pacifist poster behind the back of the host of the Vremya program, Ekaterina Andreeva. However, she still faces criminal charges.

According to MK, Ovsyannikova’s case is being heard in court today regarding a video message in which she explained the motives for her actions. So, she said that her father is Ukrainian, her mother is Russian. The editor herself at the time of her story was wearing a necklace in the colors of the Russian and Ukrainian flags. The publication reports that law enforcement officers considered the video a call to “take part in uncoordinated public events.”

It is known that the Investigative Committee is conducting an investigation into the incident, however, as of this hour, no criminal case has been opened yet.

Meanwhile, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights called the act of the Channel One employee an expression of opinion and urged her not to punish her for exercising her right to freedom of speech.

Ravina Shamdasani, spokeswoman for the department, urged Moscow to ensure that the woman “does not face reprisals for exercising her right to freedom of speech.”

The French Embassy in Russia will be able to provide consular protection to Marina Ovsyannikova, said French President Emmanuel Macron, RFi reports.
