Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed hope that his country would not be affected by the sanctions due to the situation in Ukraine.
He stressed that China is not a party to this conflict, the Xinhua news agency writes.
“Some forces denigrate the objective and fair position of the Chinese side on the Ukrainian issue and fabricate false information,” the diplomat said.
According to him, China “plays a constructive role” in resolving the Ukrainian crisis and will continue to do so in the future.
Earlier, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that China would face serious consequences if it violated sanctions against Russia.
At the same time, Wang Yi noted that China has always opposed unilateral sanctions that run counter to international law and harm all parties. “China has the right to defend its legitimate rights and interests,” he stressed.
In turn, the head of the press service of the State Department, Ned Price, warned that the United States “will not allow anyone to compensate for Russia’s losses from Western sanctions” against the backdrop of a military special operation in Ukraine. He clarified that this applies primarily to China and US allies in the Indo-Pacific region.
