Artisanal fishermen Junior Zambrano Mero, 23, Eloy Lara Nazareno, 36, and Winer Cedeño Peralta, 32, were found alive a week after being reported missing.
They left from one of the ports of Muisne (south of the province of Esmeraldas), on Sunday, March 6, and their return would be a maximum of three days. But a mechanical failure in the outboard motor left them adrift on the high seas, said Carlos Zambrano, father of one of the castaways.
Two fishermen killed and one injured after pirate attack in El Matal port, Jama canton
The sea currents moved the boat with the three crew members towards the Colombian area, where they were located. With signs of dehydration, they arrived this Sunday, March 13, at Muisne along with other fishermen who joined the search.
They were then taken to the local Carlos Del Pozo Melgar hospital for a medical check-up.
At the beginning of this month, the fishermen Javier and Carlos Castillo and Adrián Aguirre were also reported missing, in the boat named La Pinta, with license plate B02-04626, green with sharp edges and a red hull.
To date there is no trace of them or of the boat that left Muisne, their relatives said.
From the Coast Guard subcommand of the Navy it was known that the fishermen travel, on occasions, to the maritime zone with the border with Colombia and some have crossed into the neighboring country.
Others have been victims of pirates, who have had their boats and outboard motors stolen and have drifted or died.
After five days adrift, a boat that left Esmeraldas with three fishermen was rescued in Colombia
Last February, three fishermen (one Ecuadorian and two Venezuelans) were rescued in Colombia, after remaining, according to their expressions, five days adrift.
They left the coast of Esmeraldas to fish. The boat in which they worked had a problem, reported the Colombian Navy, an entity that with its teams rescued the shipwrecked. (I)
