British actor Benedict Cumberbatch will accept refugees from Ukraine in his house, reports Reuters. The actor announced his plans to reporters on the red carpet before the BAFTA awards.
In Britain, he said, “a record number of people are hosting refugees” and he himself “hopes to be a part of that too.”
Cumberbatch showed up to the event wearing a Ukrainian flag badge on his tuxedo lapel and stated that there was a need to “do more than just wear the badge”. According to him, it is necessary to donate money to help the Ukrainians, as well as “put pressure on politicians to continue to create a kind of refuge for refugees” in Britain.
Earlier, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said that the number of people fleeing Ukraine due to Russia’s military operation could reach 2 million people.
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
