President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the task of the Kyiv delegation in negotiations with Russia to reach an agreement on his meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
In a video message published on his Telegram channel, Zelensky stressed that the Ukrainian delegation has “a clear task – to do everything to ensure that the meeting of the presidents takes place.” He also added that Kyiv’s goal is “normal, effective” security guarantees for the country. “Not like in Budapest and not like in our sky. And such that the Ukrainians could say: this is working, these are guarantees, ”Zelensky added.
Earlier, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said that the Russian and Ukrainian delegations were close to a compromise in the negotiations. In turn, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin, during telephone conversations with his Turkish counterpart, said that he was “not against a meeting” with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky.
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
