Kommersant: The data of 100 thousand cards of Russian banks got into the network

Over the past few days, data from about 100,000 customer cards of Russian banks have appeared on the Internet, Kommersant writes, citing reports from the DLBI data leak intelligence and darknet monitoring service and Infosecurity, an information security company.

According to DLBI, an announcement appeared on the Internet for the sale of data from 100,000 Russian bank cards, which was posted on the forum by “a certain English-speaking user.” At the same time, it was removed due to the prohibition of “working with RU”. In turn, Infocecurity claims that the records were leaked at no cost.

At the same time, RTM Group, which also specializes in information security, claims that Russian card data leaks began earlier. The company said that fraudsters have been trying to massively write off funds from the accounts of Russians since February 26, trying to steal money even from blocked cards and expired cards.

At the same time, experts note that at present these databases have lost their value due to the inability to use cards abroad and for purchases in foreign online stores due to restrictions imposed by Visa and MasterCard.

Positive Technologies noted that attackers can still use data about the last name, first name and patronymic of the card holder, as well as which bank issued it. Fraudsters may need this information to make calls from “call centers” or send personalized advertising.

Recall that from March 10, the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard on March 10 suspended their work in Russia.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
