Passage, THE GOLD
It was the closest thing to a deluge. On Saturday night, heavy rain affected three cantons in the province of El Oro: Pasaje, Chilla and Piñas.
Local authorities reported that several homes were affected, the roads were closed and even a vehicle was left in the middle of the mud, as a result of the downpour that lasted until dawn on Sunday, March 13.
They restrict the passage of light vehicles on two sections on the road to Babahoyo due to the flood
“One of the parishes most affected by the rains is Uzhcurrumi (jurisdiction of the Pasaje canton): last night (Saturday) we had water with mud and stones in the streets and in the park. We are incommunicado, because there are several landslides,” said Joel Sánchez, president of the Parish Council.
In the middle of the rain, the inhabitants of this town armed themselves with brooms to prevent the water from entering their homes.
“There are three houses affected. There is no road access to the Guanazán parish, where there are at least five landslides in the Quera-Uzhcurrumi section,” said a councilor from Pasaje, Jovanny Coronel.
In this same sector, the Quera-Chilla section was blocked on Saturday night by several landslides that were recorded.
The mayor of the Chilla canton, Richard Cartuche, ordered the road cleaning with personnel and machinery.
Neighborhoods of Tosagua, in Manabí, were flooded by intense rain
The rains also affected the central area of the Piñas canton. One of the damages happened on Av. Kennedy, cdla. December 25, where a vehicle was buried by material from the collapse, which also endangered four houses.
On Fulvio René Gallardo street, La Inmaculada citadel, the road remained closed for a few hours due to the fall of an electrical power pole, reported the Municipality of Piñas. (I)
