News about the suspension or termination of the activities of well-known cosmetic brands in the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as the ban on the import of cosmetics and perfumes from the United States, provoked the appearance of long queues in front of Western brand stores. This is reported by the Anadolu agency.
According to the agency, the market for cosmetics and personal care products in 2020 amounted to $11 billion. The leading exporting countries of this type of goods include the United States, France, Germany, Poland, Italy, the United Kingdom, China, South Korea and Spain. And despite the fact that in recent years, Russians have increasingly begun to purchase cosmetics via the Internet, many still prefer to do this in regular stores.
And as Russians prefer imported cosmetics, news that brands such as Sephora, Dior, Lush, The Body Shop, Chanel and Mac are leaving Russia has created a lot of buzz and boosted sales growth in these stores.
According to the agency, some Russians express the hope that sooner or later brands will return to the Russian market, and worry that now they will have to use domestically produced cosmetics. At the same time, some experts believe that the problem with the shortage of cosmetics will be solved at the expense of Chinese and Korean manufacturers.
In addition, it became known earlier that the Swedish cosmetics company Oriflame remains in Russia. As the company explained, in this way they will support their employees, whose only source of income is the sale of Oriflame brand cosmetics. There is a plant on the territory of Russia, where about a thousand employees work, and another million consultants sell the company’s goods.
