The Anti-Corruption Service of Kazakhstan announced the arrest of Kairat Satybaldyuly, the nephew of former President Nursultan Nazarbayev. This is reported by ORDA, citing its sources.
The publication clarifies that Kairat is a defendant in a criminal case on the facts of abuse of power and embezzlement of Kazakhtelecom’s funds on an especially large scale. Currently, Nazarbayev’s nephew is in a temporary detention center, and representatives of the anti-corruption service are checking his involvement in a number of other crimes.
Earlier it was reported that Satybaldyuly is the founder of the offshore company Skyline Investment Company SA, which owns more than 24% of the shares of Kazakhtelecom.
Recall that in January mass protests were suppressed in Kazakhstan, CSTO troops were sent to restore order in the country. The result of the unrest was a wave of resignations of Nazarbayev’s cadres and their replacement with the people of his successor Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
