Four injured by the fall of a helicopter on Portoviejo avenue

Four people were injured after an Ecuadorian Army helicopter fell this Saturday afternoon on Urbina Avenue, one of the busiest streets in Portoviejo. The injured are the crew of the aircraft and two companions of a vehicle affected in the incident.

The fall of the helicopter, of the Helo Gazelle type of the Army, was recorded around 4:00 p.m., near the pedestrian crossing of one of the entrances of the Technical University of Manabí. At that time dozens of cars circulated on the avenue.

At the moment the helicopter collapsed, the propeller caused damage to a private vehicle and a passenger bus belonging to the Ciudad de Portoviejo cooperative, whose roof was destroyed. At the moment, Urbina Avenue is maintained with uniformed personnel carrying out controls and closed to vehicular traffic.

Agents of the National Police and bystanders helped to evacuate the two crew members who had some injuries after the fall of the helicopter, which was left with considerable damage after collapsing.

A crew member was lying on the floor and from there they tried to help him until the arrival of the paramedics.

Parts of the helicopter were scattered on the road. This type of aircraft is used by the Army for attack and reconnaissance.

The crew members were transferred to a health home, this while the causes of the air accident are investigated. (I)
