Police investigate organizations that have transported 50 tons of drugs in boats from Ecuador to Central American countries and Mexico

The 16 people arrested were given preventive detention last Wednesday, during the Poseidon operation.

About 50 tons of drugs would have transported three criminal drug organizations, whose members fell after several searches on land and operations on the high seas last Wednesday.

In total, 16 people were arrested after the Poseidon operation, twelve of them in raids carried out at dawn on Wednesday, while in the afternoon of that same day, four people were apprehended on the high seas.

“One of the hypotheses and several of the premises allow us to say that, there are approximately 50 tons of drugs that have been transported by sea. to Central America and Mexico ”, indicated Manuel Íñiguez, Director General of Investigations of the National Police.

This operation also left nine boats and ten seized vehicles, two firearms, 52 cell phones, $ 37,937, 28 electronic devices and various documents.

Three of the 16 detainees have a criminal record and one is a military man on passive service.

Rubén Balda, prosecutor for Fedoti 1 in Manta, indicated that the 16 detainees were given preventive detention for the duration of the 90-day prosecutorial investigation. In this investigation there are two international criminal assistance, both from the United States Government.

“It is not only that they are deprived of liberty, but the Prosecutor’s Office requested the prohibition of alienating all their assets, as well as in a singular way the seizure of their bank accounts and therefore the immobilization of their funds… Eventually there would be people to be linked in the course of the fiscal investigation ”, indicated Balda.

The authorities are investigating whether, for example, the detained fishing leader sought to know previously about Navy operations. It was also established that each of the detainees fulfilled a mission, from the planning of the supply of boats and the entire organization of sending drugs to countries in Central and North America.
