Arequipa: GRA will ask for more time so that the Majes Siguas II contract does not expire

The Regional Government of Arequipa will ask the company Cobra, concessionaire of the Majes Siguas II project, to extend the expiration date of the contract which is next October 30. To make this request, the regional entity will hold a meeting with the Spanish firm this Friday.

The deputy governor of Arequipa, Walter Gutiérrez Cueva, met with the technical team of the Majes Siguas II project to coordinate the support of the extension.

At the moment, the project manager, René Cruz Mamani, indicated that the company has already been informed of this intention, since what is missing is the subscription of addendum 13, which should be reached to the Regional Council of Arequipa so that in a session decides whether to pass or not.

Nevertheless, because seven of the 14 counselors are absent Due to their arrest due to the Los Hijos del Cóndor case, it is impossible for them to hold the voting session.

“In the event that the company does not accept this expansion proposal, everything returns to zero, means that in the next five years or more we would return to this chapter of the process and it would be a great loss for Arequipa. The technical part complied with the procedure for signing addendum 13, what’s more, this week it had to be debated in the Regional Council; however, due to the political situation, it is necessary to request this extension, ”Cruz told the GRA’s Institutional Image office.
