A father wanted to throw his two little daughters from the fifth floor window of the building where they lived. But that could be avoided thanks to the persuasion of both the mother of the minors and personnel from the National Police and the Fire Department who arrived at the scene.
Olga Carrera was one of the citizens who witnessed this event. She has a fabric store in the lower part of the building, located on Mera street, between Juan Benigno Vela and Cevallos avenue, in the center of the city of Ambate, and the minutes of this afternoon were the moments of greatest anguish that he lived, since he saw how that father kept the girls in the air with the threat of letting them fall.
“We took a large fabric that I have for sale and it was held between some people making a type of bed to try to cushion the blow in case the girls had been thrown,” the woman said.
She only knows that some foreigners live in the building who rent the rooms and who apparently do not have economic stability, without work and with many deficiencies. All this apparently led to a depressive picture in the father of the minors, who tried to take their lives.
Ricardo Pazán, clinical psychologist at the Ambato General Teaching Hospital (HGDA), and head of the Mental Health Hospital unit, said that there are many factors that influence people to make the decision to commit suicide or think about doing so, which cannot be talk about a single reason and that (that decision) is developed over time because it does not arise from one moment to another.
In relation to what happened, he stated that many hypotheses can be created, but that there are several factors that could point to what could have been what motivated this father of a family to make that decision.
He lamented that it is not the only case in which the life of a relative is threatened.
Pazán mentioned that when a person has been affected by economic problems, debts and other factors; he also has children in his care, and is in a hopeless situation, he is more vulnerable to going through such a suffocating situation, which generates what is called tunnel vision, that is, he does not see any other option, so the Suicide becomes the alternative that he sees at that moment to get out of the problem.
Pazán confirmed that the patient (father of girls) was treated at the HGDA emergency by Psychology and Psychiatry. It was decided to admit him for multidisciplinary treatment, he said. (I)
