Lorraine Herrera, gender director of the Prefecture of Pichincha, highlighted that the ordinance issued in 2019 declaring as public policy on issues of violence against women It allowed a greater emphasis on protection work, modification of socio-cultural patterns, promotion of rights and generation of information and knowledge.

He also highlighted the creation of six comprehensive centers for the protection of rights (Warmi Pichincha) that serve as support points to deal with cases of violence against women.

In addition, he reported that the creation of the emergency line 166 allowed rapid access to care with professionals in rights protection services, which was decisive at the time of lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, when there was an increase in cases of domestic violence.

“We do not want that no woman experiences psychological, physical, patrimonial or political violence, that no woman is murdered because of machismo and patriarchy,” he asserted.

Geraldine Guerra, representative of Aldea, presented the territorial map of femicides and violence against women in Pichincha. In her presentation, she highlighted the importance of generating a tool that allows knowing the points where the victims were murdered. As “alarming and outrageous” indicated that, out of every ten women, seven have been victims of violence.
