The Green Awards _previously known as Green Latin America Awards_, an initiative developed in Ibero-America that recognizes innovative and sustainable environmental practices, will have an edition for the first time in Miami (Florida, USA) on April 20, the organization reported on Wednesday.
The Green Awards will have their first appearance in the United States from April 20 to 24an appointment in Miami that aims to “contribute to boosting the green economy” with regional initiatives in 8 categories and that is sponsored by the city’s mayor, Francis Suárez, said a statement.
The awards gala will take place on Sunday 24 and will be attended by “international talents who will present and present the awards to the new champions of the region in socio-environmental development.”
The non-profit organisation, which rewards more than half a thousand environmental and social projects in Latin Americachose Miami for the celebration of this edition due to the “strong Latino community” that defines the city and Suárez’s interest in hosting the event.
“The ‘Magic City’ has been profiled as a technological center and has been recognized by the magazine Forbes for his strategy to improve air quality, implementation of green spaces, clean drinking water and streets, and various recycling programs”, José Javier Guarderas, co-founder and vice president of the Green Awards, said in a statement.
Guarderas pointed out that the environmental improvement actions implemented in Miami “align perfectly” with its mission and hopes to expand the global reach “with the ultimate goal of promoting sustainable businesses.”
The organization stressed that, according to studies, 85% of green start-ups “are not successful after the first year.”
As such, the Green Awards allow these companies to submit their sustainable development goals for consideration for funding and future business.
The evaluation of each project is carried out by a jury made up of international divisions, with the support of the UN, “where the 500 best projects of each year they will become part of the training program for sustainable enterprises”.
The conference is free and features various roundtable discussions where experts and organizations will discuss and examine issues such as “visibility, impact of technology and funding.”
