The President of Norilsk Nickel called for caution in taking steps in response to sanctions, especially with regard to the confiscation of enterprises of companies leaving the Russian market. His comment was posted on the company’s Telegram channel.

According to Potanin, the decision of many companies to suspend operations in Russia is somewhat emotional and may have been taken due to unprecedented pressure from public opinion. He suggests that they may return.

Therefore, one should be more careful with the confiscation of enterprises of foreign companies proposed by Russian officials. This “will take us back a hundred years, to 1917,” Potanin added. He is sure that the consequences in the form of a global distrust of investors in Russia will be felt for decades.

If Russia is being “squeezed out”, one should try to stay on the markets, Potanin said.

He called the most adequate measure to introduce external management, which will allow owners to keep their property, and companies to avoid collapse, continue to produce products and pay money to employees.

Earlier, the Public Consumer Initiative organization compiled a list of 59 foreign companies that decided to leave Russia and could be nationalized.

“As soon as there are companies that announce their withdrawal without providing guarantees to Russian consumers, they are brought in there. Accordingly, administrative, criminal and judicial procedures will be applied to them, ”said Oleg Pavlov, head of the organization, Izvestia wrote. According to him, the volume of obligations of foreign companies that have stopped working in Russia to citizens, the state and contractors is more than 6 trillion rubles. Now the list includes such companies as Volkswagen, Apple, IKEA, Microsoft, IBM, Shell, McDonald’s, Porsche, etc.

Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin has not formed a position on the proposals of parliamentarians on the nationalization of foreign enterprises that have left the Russian market.
