Ten decorations to citizens and institutions of Portoviejo will be delivered this Saturday, March 12, when this canton remembers its 487 years of Spanish foundation.
The main basis for the designation of the honorees is the contribution they have made from their work, training and excellence directing entities.
The act of the solemn session will take place from 10:00 this Saturday at the Bellavista events center. Before that ceremony, from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11, there will be a concert with a symphony orchestra in Las Vegas Park, and on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. there will be a flag-raising act.
This would be the last act related to the foundation or independence party of Portoviejo that will be chaired by the mayor of this canton, Agustín Casanova, because it has been announced that he would participate in the next elections in February 2023 as a candidate for the Prefecture of Manabí.
Given this, he must resign from his position as mayor in August, the month in which the registration of candidates for the elections of the coming year begins.
With twelve events, Portoviejo will celebrate its 201 years of political independence
Among the decorated are Hugo Matías Ramos Sornoza, who will be recognized with the San Gregorio de Portoviejo decoration, in the degree of merit for community service; decoration in the degree to the formative merit to the Instituto Superior Universitario Portoviejo (ITSUP).
In the degree of merit for professional career, the recognition will go to Marcelo Farfán Intriago, one of the main directors of the Universidad Particular San Gregorio de Portoviejo.
The artisan merit will go to Hugo Washington Fernández Cedeño, guardian of the artisan tradition from his work in the saddlery, which he has maintained for several decades in the Colón parish, among other recognitions.
Because the founding day of Portoviejo is this Saturday, the day off for the capital of Manabi will be this Friday, when there will be no attention in the public sector. (I)
