Weekly inflation in Russia rose to 2.22%, the highest since 1998. It is reported by Interfax with reference to Rosstat.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development, annual inflation in Russia from February 26 to March 4 accelerated to 10.42% against 9.05% a week earlier.

Caused by sanctions and the depreciation of the ruble, the price increase was the highest in a week since 1998. Rosstat also calculated that since the beginning of the month by March 4, prices have increased by 1.26%, and since the beginning of this year – by 3.46%. The average daily price increase for the first four days of March amounted to 0.314% (against the average daily 0.026% for the nine days of March last year).

According to the data presented, annual inflation in Russia exceeded 10% as of March 4, reaching 10.4% for the first time since January 2016 against 9.15% at the end of February, 8.73% at the end of January and 8.39% at the end of December.

Inflation, according to the department, was affected by rising prices for foreign tourism, cars, household appliances and electronics. Also in Russia, medicines have risen in price, including levomekol, multivitamins, ergoferon, nimesulide, analgin, corvalol and validol.

Earlier it was reported that Russian drug manufacturers may face a shortage of imported raw materials and components due to the weakening of the ruble. Nikolai Bespalov, Development Director of RNC Pharma, said that over the past ten days, imported substances have risen in price by 30-35%. At the same time, 80–85% of Russian drugs are made from them.
