Roads to Cayambe damaged after the day of demonstrations; the traffic returned to normal this Thursday, October 28

More than ten closures were cleared by the National Police and the Armed Forces.

The roads that connect the provinces of Pichincha and Imbabura they were part of demonstrations from Tuesday, October 26. After two days of road closures and clashes with police and military a kind of truce has been declared. The social groups reported that they will analyze their requests to the Government after the holiday of the Day of the Dead and Independence of Cuenca.

From the 06:00, police and military began cleaning and around 10:00 the transit was enabled in a normal way.

The protesters declared themselves in resistance to the measures announced by the Government of a freeze with an increase in the price of fuel. However, since this morning the cleaning work began on the roads that connect to Quito with Tabacundo and Cayambe.

William Calle, commander of the Order Maintenance Unit of the National Police, said that only in his unit they reported seven wounded policemen with stones; one has a broken clavicle and others received attacks with artisanal bombs.

Calle reported to this newspaper that a police officer declared disability leave for 40 days after receiving burns from one of these chlorine bombs, which explode after two minutes.

“We see that there is no respect for the police institution. In the Oyacoto sector, people received about 800 police and military agents with flying guns and dynamite. They started down the mountain in ambush. I see these people are specializing in marches”He added.

Members of the National Police and the Army they divided into two teams to carry out the cleaning. One came from Cusubamba and another from Tabacundo. Along the way, they met more than ten closures in which they removed dirt mounds, crossed trees and rocks arranged on the track.

Yesterday, these roads were guarded by more than a thousand protesters, reported the National Police, who confronted each other with sticks and stones.
