The city court of St. Petersburg left Alexander Ebralidze, a 66-year-old billionaire, a shareholder of Constance Bank, in custody. As reported in the joint press service of the courts of the Northern capital, neither the age of the accused of embezzlement, nor poor health helped to get out of the pre-trial detention center.
At the appeal hearing, the lawyers insisted on the abolition of the preventive measure, or the choice of a milder restriction in the form of house arrest or a ban on certain actions. The actions of the head of the board, Eldar Dygov, who is also in custody, are unknown to the person involved in the case, lawyers said.
“One of the witnesses, as the defense pointed out, said that on 08/01/2016, employees of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation could not start checking the bank’s vault in time, since Dygov said that he forgot the keys to the premises in the car, and left the car in Finland. Yes, and there is nothing to check, there is no money in the vault. Thus, the defense believed that even then Dygov knew that there was no money and, accordingly, it is not clear why the investigation was puzzled by this issue only after 5 years, ”the press service gave details.
Ebralidze said that he “has nothing to do with what is happening,” and referred to his age and worsened illnesses. However, the city court took into account the arguments of the investigation and left the person involved in the criminal case in custody.
Recall that businessman Ebralidze was sent to a pre-trial detention center in November 2021. According to the investigation, in 2014-2016, the billionaire organized a scheme according to which the money in the custody of Constance Bank was at the personal disposal of the head of the board, Eldar Dygov. The materials mention the amount of 2.9 million rubles, criminal connections and some electronic correspondence, which allegedly indicates “the defendant’s knowledge of the organization of contract killings.” Ebralidze’s lawyers believe that Dygov is slandering his client.
