The Loja-Cuenca road was closed from 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, to vehicular traffic for a period of twenty days. The closure is due to works to change the sewage system in the Milla stream sector, at kilometer 46, a section between the San Lucas parish and the Saraguro cantonal head.
The Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) indicated that the strong winter season caused the clogging of the sewer, which produced a large-scale reservoir.
Despite the fact that the Undersecretary of Public Works itself announced that a variant would be built in the sector for vehicular passage, this may not be possible.
The heavy and constant rains that have fallen on the sector resulted in the overflow of streams and landslides that have hindered the road for a week in several sections. For this reason, the authorities recommended that the road not be used at night.

Inhabitants of the communities of San Lucas, Saraguro and the users of this road have expressed their discomfort with the announcement and the decision. They affirm that this will not allow the transfer of people, especially children to schools or the products that need to be moved to the city for commercialization. (I)
