Uniformed members of the Police and the Prosecutor’s Office participated in a raid on the headquarters of the Municipality of the Bolívar canton (Manabí).
Around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday 27, personnel from both entities arrived at the offices where the Municipality operates. The provincial prosecutor, Luiggi Miranda, led the investigation.
Juan Carlos Espinales, Trustee of the Municipality, stated that what was done by the Prosecutor’s Office is something without novelty and that documentation was being collected on investigative processes that have been followed for more than a year, as a protection action requested by three councilors of the canton Bolívar against the mayor, Walther Cevallos, for withholding his salaries. There are also reports of an alleged crime of embezzlement in the acquisition of food and biosafety supplies during the stage of the pandemic in this northern canton of Manabí. The mayor and several officials are part of those investigated in this judicial case.
According to Jaime Moreno, councilor of the canton, this raid could be related to a new investigation that is being carried out to the municipal administration.
